Per determinare quali misure \u00e8 necessario prendere e per stimare i rischi che stiamo affrontando, gli scienziati usano modelli statistici per ottenere informazioni sulla diffusione del virus. Questo \u00e8 sicuramente d\u2019aiuto per mantenere un controllo sulla pandemia. Curiosamente, noi stessi come singoli essere umani ci comportiamo proprio come questi scienziati, ma in modo pi\u00f9 automatico; possiamo pensare le nostre menti come delle \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1002\/hipo.20287\">macchine predittive<\/a>\u201d, che stimano continuamente se siamo attualmente a rischio di essere infettati, di perdere il lavoro o di esser criticati. Eppure, ci sono enormi differenze rispetto a come le persone stimano i rischi e per alcuni queste stime si trasformano in <a href=\"https:\/\/royalsocietypublishing.org\/doi\/pdf\/10.1098\/rsos.200589\">grosse preoccupazioni.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Cosa rende alcune persone pi\u00f9 inclini a preoccuparsi di altre? \u00c8 interessante notare che recenti approfondimenti sulla teoria dell\u2019evoluzione suggeriscono che stress e preoccupazioni sono in realt\u00e0 risposte molto comuni e logiche \u2013 anche \u201cautomatiche\u201d \u2013 alla minaccia. Quando facciamo previsioni sul futuro, noi tutti tendiamo ad <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0149763416300380\">eccedere con la cautela<\/a>. Questo \u00e8 perch\u00e9, anticamente, solo quelle persone che erano caute rispetto a segnali di minaccia, erano in grado di sopravvivere. Tali persone caute hanno trasferito i loro geni alle generazioni successive. Pertanto, secondo la <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdpi.com\/1660-4601\/15\/3\/464\">Teoria dello Stress sull\u2019Insicurezza Generalizzata<\/a> (Generalized Unsafety Theory of Stress; in breve GUTS) recentemente proposta, la domanda non dovrebbe essere \u201cperch\u00e9 le persone si preoccupano, ma \u201cperch\u00e9 alcune persone non riescono a disattivare questa <a href=\"https:\/\/deepblue.lib.umich.edu\/bitstream\/handle\/2027.42\/31354\/0000265.pdf?sequence=1\">risposta logica alla minaccia e all\u2019incertezza<\/a>?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>La risposta sembra risiedere nella capacit\u00e0 di riconoscere i segnali di sicurezza. Solo quando le persone percepiscono chiari segnali che sono al sicuro, la preoccupazione viene disattivata. Nelle nostre previsioni sui rischi che possiamo incontrare nel mondo, valutiamo sia i segnali di pericolo sia i segnali di sicurezza, ma gli ultimi sono stati largamente ignorati dai precedenti modelli sullo stress. Sulla base di ci\u00f2, la teoria GUTS suggerisce che \u00e8 la percezione di sicurezza che consente alle persone di smettere di preoccuparsi.\u00a0 Quando non percepiamo sicurezza, continuiamo a preoccuparci. Studi neurobiologici mostrano infatti che quando si percepisce sicurezza, la corteccia prefrontale inizia a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/nn1399\">inibire le risposte di stress<\/a>. Da questo punto di vista, i clinici devono prendere in considerazione la quantit\u00e0 di sicurezza che i pazienti vivono nelle loro vite quotidiane. La teoria GUTS suggerisce varie fonti di sicurezza.<\/p>\n<p>La quantit\u00e0 di \u201cpercezione di sicurezza\u201d \u00e8 prima di tutto determinata dalla propria storia di apprendimento. Crescendo in ambienti sicuri, le persone imparano gradualmente che il loro mondo \u00e8 un luogo sicuro, prevedibile e controllabile (almeno in parte). Imparano a creare legami stretti con altre persone, imparano che gli altri possono essere premurosi, sicuri e amichevoli. Tuttavia, non tutti crescono in ambienti cos\u00ec sicuri. Esperienze stressanti durante l\u2019infanzia condizioneranno la sensazione di sicurezza nel mondo e <a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1002\/%28SICI%291520-6394%281996%294%3A3%3C134%3A%3AAID-DA6%3E3.0.CO%3B2-G\">predisporranno le persone a preoccuparsi in seguito nella loro vita.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tuttavia, ci sono anche altre <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdpi.com\/1660-4601\/15\/3\/464\">fonti di sicurezza<\/a>. Per esempio, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S2352250X14000396?casa_token=WFZH_i_9zzUAAAAA:5GYIGOnmQv71g4BH4vByvgR5fTOS5jug5OQkD9wGTdxGEEK6coQqvn3U1b2YxG0glyafE5LPAw\">la sicurezza pu\u00f2 derivare dall\u2019esperienza di rete sociale supportiva<\/a>. Gli esseri umani si sono evoluti vivendo in gruppo. Il nostro sistema di stress \u00e8 fortemente inibito quando siamo con persone amichevoli, piuttosto che quando siamo da soli. \u00c8 stato dimostrato che una <a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/content\/pdf\/10.1007\/s40750-016-0052-x.pdf\">bella<\/a> coccola riduce la nostra risposta allo stress.<\/p>\n<p>Un\u2019altra fonte di sicurezza deriva dal nostro corpo: la forma fisica. Per questo le persone che sono pi\u00f9 attive, sono pi\u00f9 resilienti allo stress. Le persone attive potrebbero sperimentare una maggior sicurezza perch\u00e9 possono affrontare pi\u00f9 facilmente le minacce fisiche. Si pu\u00f2 immaginare che anticamente, le persone meno sane fisicamente avevano necessit\u00e0 di sondare i loro ambienti dai predatori molto pi\u00f9 spesso dei loro pari in forma e in salute, i quali potevano scappare pi\u00f9 facilmente dai predatori.<\/p>\n<p>Una ultima fonte di sicurezza \u00e8 l\u2019aver <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cambridge.org\/core\/services\/aop-cambridge-core\/content\/view\/E11A2647A48207B0C637AC77C29E68BD\/S2056472400001873a.pdf\/local_availability_of_green_and_blue_space_and_prevalence_of_common_mental_disorders_in_the_netherlands.pdf\">accesso alla natura<\/a>. Gli esseri umani si sono evoluti in ambienti naturali (piuttosto che urbanizzati). Tali ambienti naturali possono evolutivamente aver fornito segnali di sicurezza (nascondigli, vedette, informazioni sulle vie di fuga).<\/p>\n<p>Le reti sociali, l\u2019attivit\u00e0 fisica, l\u2019esposizione alla natura\u2026.. sono esattamente le fonti di sicurezza che sono state compromesse in tutto il mondo a causa del lockdown.<\/p>\n<p>In qualit\u00e0 di scienziato del GUTS e psicologo clinico, posso affermare che queste intuizioni hanno cambiato il mio lavoro con i pazienti preoccupati. Oltre ai soliti interventi cognitivi comportamentali, come scrivere paure e cercare indizi nella loro razionalit\u00e0, o impegnarsi in esercizi di consapevolezza o rilassamento, la teoria GUTS enfatizza molti altri modi per affrontare le preoccupazioni.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Raccomandazioni pratiche <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Riconoscere e normalizzare la paura come risposta comune alla novit\u00e0, all\u2019incertezza e alla minaccia. Mantenersi sulla normalizzazione delle paure, piuttosto che sulla costruzione della patologia. Provare a eliminare le preoccupazioni (con tutti i tipi di soluzioni rapide) potrebbe solo <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S1077722913000059?casa_token=IfrDHIA1NPAAAAAA:sMVj8JtTUyGJRUz9PqorQ8vCiNBKqUSQHPSwfMBOwa1IB9K6w-4AIoHLxJ-0FG9-lHv7mxU_gQ\">peggiorare la situazione<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Prendersi del tempo per comprendere la storia della persona rispetto alla sicurezza. Il paziente \u00e8 stato capace di imparare la sicurezza crescendo? Questo determina la velocit\u00e0 con cui ci si pu\u00f2 aspettare che avvenga il cambiamento. Alcuni sono solo pi\u00f9 vulnerabili alle preoccupazioni, per via delle esperienze apprese, o perch\u00e9 sono nati come pi\u00f9 sensibili emotivamente. Vanno prese in considerazione queste vulnerabilit\u00e0 per evitare il disappunto dei pazienti.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Non dimenticare il corpo: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0149763413000389?casa_token=jvOmQTgerXAAAAAA:ru1BL-_8r7atcWWmxyag6lNyiTTypvjbBd11VCWknqOUg7z93bR7MutoK0rYCf_2CRMQQT_XLg\">una attivit\u00e0 fisica regolare pu\u00f2 aiutare ad avere una mente pi\u00f9 rilassata<\/a>, anche nel lungo periodo. Preferibilmente questa attivit\u00e0 dovrebbe essere svolta all\u2019aperto, in un ambiente verde.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Motivare i pazienti ad aprirsi rispetto alle loro preoccupazioni. Le persone che si preoccupano potrebbero sentirsi sole e vergognarsi. Se motivate a parlare delle proprie paure con gli altri, ci\u00f2 potrebbe portare non solo a pi\u00f9 supporto, ma anche a sperimentare situazioni in cui previsioni minacciose (\u201crider\u00e0 di me per questo\u201d) possono essere trasformate in esperienze per imparare a sentirsi sicuri (\u201clei era ok in realt\u00e0 e mi ha aiutato\u201d)<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Spiegare che preoccuparsi talvolta pu\u00f2 aiutare a mantenere il controllo (\u201cdevo fare qualcosa\u2026 almeno preoccuparmene\u201d), ma questo \u00e8 solo un falso senso di sicurezza. Aiutare le persone a riconoscere che alcune cose sono al di l\u00e0 del loro controllo \u2013 il che pu\u00f2 essere doloroso- e che praticare l\u2019accettazione e la <a
